Albert Road House Renovation
This substantial corner site villa had been virtually unaltered for a century when its new owners approached Salmond Reed Architects to undertake a complete renovation from the ground up.
Originally built for an Irish gentleman, the early 1900s house featured shamrock emblems worked into the stained glass above the front door and the renovation sought to retain traditional features such as these and to incorporate modern facilities in a manner sympathetic to the style, quality and elegance of the original grand old house.
The new layout included an entirely new basement with a family room and three large bedrooms, a family bathroom, laundry and utility room and carport. An original upstairs bedroom was sacrificed to accommodate the roomy access stair which features a vast window to flood light into the new downstairs area.
Recently, new owners have retained Salmond Reed to design minor additions such as bi-fold doors between the formal lounge and dining areas and it is a real testimony to the enduring quality of the original renovation that these new owners have been able to stamp their own colourful and eclectic Pacifica style onto this finely crafted back-drop.
