Mt Eden Prison
Salmond Reed Architects was engaged to document and oversee all heritage works directly associated with the redevelopment of Auckland’s historic Mt Eden Prison (interior and exterior detailing, including master planning of all alterations and additions to this heritage building).
This work included liaison with the design architect, Stephenson and Turner and with archaeologists to review the proposed design detailing and the selection of new materials and finishes and services to ensure that potential heritage conflicts were avoided.
It also encompassed a review of the final design package and preparation of a final Heritage Commentary to assist in steering the project through The Historic Places Trust and ACC sign-off processes.
Other tasks included the formulation of a Method Statement in regard to removal of any historic fabric and overseeing and attendance during construction to ensure best conservation practices were followed.
